From common sense revolution to ...Mike Harris and Jim Flaherty made a team of two that had a somewhat devastating impact on Ontario's health care system. During the 8 years of conservative's rule, not only the health care system, but schools, hydro, and our social system were put under tremendous pressure in order to fund tax cut promises. Unfortunately and sadly somehow voters were not informed of the cost and the side affects of promised tax cuts as tax is the main source of revenue that supports the health care system, schools, arts, community and social programs and shelters.Highlights of Jim Flaherty as the finance minister: Privatization of Hydro One , resulting in massive debt, increase in price of electricity , in sharp contrast to what was offered as justification of the privatization of Hydro.

Cutting health care system funding resulting in massive pressures on hospitals, health care workers, operating rooms and
emergency staff. It
is hard to determine how many lives were lost as a result of this funding cut in hospitals in various forms such as lack of equipment,
late cancer detection, long waits in emergency, and long waiting lists for life saving operations that is crucial for cancer, heart and stroke patients.
The main winners of Conservative tax cuts where not average citizens or small businesses.

Cutting funds for government inspections causing loss of life in the Walkerton tainted water scandal. This was the first time that Ontarians felt the reality behind the promises of tax cuts.
Cutting funds for government inspection organizations, causing loss of life in Walkerton tainted water scandal. This was the first time that Ontarians felt the reality behind the promises of tax cuts. Deregulating rental market resulting in wild increases in rents that alone offset all the promised tax cuts benefits. Which meant that the tax cuts went to your landlord's pocket and not yours. Cutting social housing funding which became extremely necessary in wake of a deregulated rental market resulting in increased rents. Instead of a proper overhaul of the welfare system , they cut the welfare funding all together pushing those below the poverty lines further down and with no incentives for them to rise above the line.

And finally they cut taxes. They got in power on promises of tax cuts while keeping it quiet that cutting
taxes unavoidably would result in lack of enough funding for schools, health care system and in general our more European style social system.
Deregulating rental market, resulting in wild increases in rents that alone offset all the promised tax cuts benefits. The main winners of Conservative tax cuts where not average citizens or small businesses. Large scale corporations were the main beneficiaries of the tax cuts. And this increased profit, on the contrary to what conservative government suggested, did not result in more employment for Ontarians as those corporations continued to outsource their business to countries such as India and China even more aggressively resulting in permanent loss of employment opportunities in various sectors of Ontario's economy. Jim Flaherty as the architect of the system now in charge of the federal Finance system has tried to implement the same failed American Style tax cuts, service cuts and reduced funding to various programs. The difference is that in the federal system there is more money available that is largely coming from the province of Ontario where he has not shown much loyalty to even though he is in parliament representing an Ontario riding. In various situations he has attacked the Ontario government which seems more like a feud over massive loss of provincial conservative support in Ontario, something that can largely be credited to his own Policies.
